"Who's Next?/What's Next?" illustrations Created for the Kaleidoscope: Queer Visions of the Future show.
Artist statement
“Who’s next?” represents where we are currently. Clinging to our communities to protect and survive.
The future is "What's next?", walking together into a world we build for all of us. The hands in this piece belong to people of color as queer liberation has only come this far because of queer folks of color and will never continue if it's centered around white people.
In my vision of the future, I’m hoping to see a change from all of the "Who's next?" questions, to a world where we get to ask “What’s next?”
Moving past: "Who do we lose next? Whose rights are attacked next? Who's coming out next?" and on to: “What do we get to do next? What change can we make next? What's created next?”
